The Inspiration For My Artwork

The Inspiration For My Artwork

Santuario de Chimayo, Chimayo, NM

I find it difficult most times to write about my paintings, and prefer to share images of the places and things that inspire my work. So in this post I will share some of photos my husband and I have taken while I’m here in New Mexico. Hopefully, this will give you a better perspective of how this place touches my soul.

Rio Grande Gorge Bridge

We walked to the center of the bridge which is 650 above the Rio Grande River and looked down at the river snaking through the gorge cut through the middle of the surrounding mesa. My hubby took this photo, and it inspired the painting below, titled Earth and Sky.

This next photo was taken behind the historic Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos, NM. This land is part of the Taos Pueblo reservation. Sage bushes and wild flowers can be found growing everywhere. You can’t see the wild flowers here, as they’re hidden by all the bushes. In the background the spectacular Taos Mountains.

The memories of this day trip and this photo inspired the creation of Meadow Wild Flowers below. This painting was created with oil paints and cold wax.

I’ve enjoyed painting during my stay in Santa Fe. I’ll be coming home in a few weeks, but the memories will surely live on in my paintings. I invite you to visit my website gallery as I’ve added new artwork you may not have seen.

I am so pleased to announce I have a new gallery in Santa Fe representing my art. Hat Ranch Gallery is located on the historic Turquoise Trail in Santa Fe. A fine art gallery with fine views!

Thank you for your continued support friends. If you know of someone who might enjoy my artwork, I would be honored if you shared this blog with them. And, if your friend makes a purchase from your referral, there will be a little something in it for you!!

May 2019 continue to brighten your lives with color.

Your artist friend, Mary
