New Year, New Decade, New Inspiration

New Year, New Decade, New Inspiration

I’m still finding it difficult to think we’re already a week into 2020. Hope your holiday season was a wonderful one. I am so thrilled to be back in the studio creating new artwork. I believe this year will find me painting more abstracted landscapes with my newly found love of oil paints in 2019. At the beginning of last year I decided to give oils a try. Not only did I find them fun and luscious to paint with, but the element of surprise is always there. Unlike acrylics, correcting mishaps in oil is not an easy task. I now welcome the little “happy accidents”.

Luckily, I have many photographs from last summer’s trip to Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico for an endless source of inspiration. And, I’m already planning my next trip to Santa Fe for this summer. Be prepared for lots more painting coming from the charming adobe casita I rent just off Canyon Road.

This is my first work in progress for 2020. Done in oil and cold wax on a cradled birch panel. I’m really loving the results so far, and with a few more tweaks this one should be done soon. Any suggestions on what I should call this one friends? Just send your suggestion via a comment below.

My next art exhibit will be in March. I’ll be participating in a group exhibit with a landscape theme. I’ll keep you posted when I have more information. In the meantime, you can always see my available artwork on my online gallery. Just click the button below to visit my gallery.

I have an exciting new opportunity coming up next month. I’ll be joining a new local home decor boutique to show my artwork. The grand opening is in February, so I’ll keep you updated as soon as I have more to share. Fingers crossed this will be another great avenue to show my art.

Thank you so much for being fans, patrons and collectors of my art. Your support means the world to me. Wishing you and yours the best of all things in 2020 and the new decade to follow.

Blessings from your artist friend, Mary

As 2018 comes to a close and I count my many blessings, I want you to know you are included in that count. What an amazing year it has been, and your continued friendship and support has been a big part of my success and happiness.

I continue to learn and grow as an artist. Broadening my horizons and getting outside my comfort zone have resulted in some different and beautiful new art this year. Thanks for continuing to cheer me on in this pursuit.

Here are just a couple of my latest paintings which you may not have seen. If you’d like more info on either painting, simply click on the images.

Paradise Lost, 36 x 36 acrylic on canvas

Paradise Lost, 36 x 36 acrylic on canvas

Paradise Lost was created as a tribute to honor all those who lost their lives, homes and more in the tragic wildfires that have ravaged California recently. The events have touched me deeply, and I felt the need to convey my thoughts on canvas.

Connections, 36 x 36 acrylic on canvas

Connections, 36 x 36 acrylic on canvas

Connections was created to embrace the way each of us, and the entire universe, are connected in ways we may never fully understand. From the tiniest creature to the vastness of the heavens.

Our home is decorated for Christmas, and I am fondly recalling memories of Christmases past as a young child. We’re looking forward to celebrating the holidays with our children and now four grandchildren. Christmas was always magical for me, and I hope my grandchildren will feel the same as they grow up.

If you’re like me, you’re already making plans for 2019. I have two solo exhibits I’m excited about. One in February and the other in November. At least I know I’ll be busy at the beginning and end of 2019. I still have a few of my 2019 calendars left if you need a last minute gift idea. They’re really beautiful and practical. I’ll hand sign each one.
